La présentation culturelle du 11 octobre 2013 a été un grand succès, les présentateurs partageaient avec l’auditoire un peu de leurs œuvres. La soirée était ouverte avec une cassette de Georges Jean-Charles discutant avec Julien Jumelle de son nouveau livre sur Jacques Stéphen Alexis, cette grande figure de la littérature haïtienne. Patrick Sylvain, Charlot Lucien et Tontongi ont lit directement des sélections dans leurs nouveaux recueils de poèmes respectifs. Danielle Georges a parlé un peu de la poétesse haïtienne du xixè siècle Ida Faubert et lit quelques uns de ses propres poèmes inédits et d’autres précédemment publiés. Idi a encore une fois réjoui l’auditoire avec un répertoire incandescent et inspirant à la fois. Malheureusement Rebecca Zama ne pouvait nous joindre à cause d’un conflit de présentation. Une membre du public, Derline Févrius, a été encouragée à se joindre avec Idi dans un duo spontané pour interpréter la chanson de Emeline Michel sur Lumane Casimir, ce qui a beaucoup réjoui l’auditoire. Le peintre Jean-Claude Sainté a paradé pour l’assistance la version originale de son tableau “Appel de détresse”, reproduit sur la couverture du recueil de Charlot Lucien. La cinquantaine de personnes présentes était en deçà du nombre espéré par les organisateurs, mais l’auditoire était bien satisfait, le café Arts at the Armory offrant une atmosphère relaxée et accueillante.

Nous savons bien que dans les moments de crise économique et d’exigences autrement bouleversantes, la culture est le premier article à être sacrifié dans la liste des priorités, mais nous aimerions tout de même que nos communautés montrent un peu plus d’intérêts aux choses de l’esprit et de l’intellect, qui sont autrement indispensables à la complétude existentielle de l’individu.

Heureusement ce qui ressortait de cette soirée, c’est le sentiment bien réconfortant que malgré les tragédies de toutes sortes qui accablent Haïti, la poésie, les arts et l’espoir demeurent une activité vivante chez ses ressortissants.

The cultural event on October 11th 2013 was a great success, the presenters shared with the audience a bit of their works. The evening opened with a cassette recording by Georges Jean-Charles speaking with Julien Jumelle about his new book on Jacques Stephen Alexis, this great figure of Haitian literature. Patrick Sylvain, Charlot Lucien and Tontongi read some selections directly from their respective new collections of poems. Danielle Georges spoke a bit about 19th century Haitian poetess Ida Faubert and read some unpublished poems of her own along with some published ones. Idi once again has delighted the audience with a repertory both incandescent and inspiring. Unfortunately Rebecca Zama couldn’t make it due to a scheduling conflict. A member of the audience Derline Févrius was encouraged to join Idi in a spontaneous duo to interpret the song of Emeline Michel about Lumane Casimir, to much applause from the audience. The artist Jean-Claude Sainté displayed for the audience the original version of his painting «Appel de détresse» which illustrates the front cover of Charlot Lucien’s book. The 50 or so people present was below the number expected by the organizers, however the participants and the audience were highly satisfied, the Arts at the Armory café providing a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere.

We know quite well that in times of economic crisis and troubling exigencies, culture is the first item to sacrifice on the list of priorities, still we would like our communities to show a little bit more of interest toward the things of the mind and the intellect, which are as indispensable to the existential complétude (completeness) of the individual.

Happily, what transpired from the evening is the feeling that despite the many tragedies that have burdened Haiti, poetry, arts and hope remain a living activity among its people.
