What I owe Maurice Sixto: The story behind the portrait
After he planted his own magnificent stories, not only did he open the door to the fallow garden for others and myself to join in, planting their owns, he was also going to get me to receive the strangest and most unexpected gift of my life. Sixto’s former friend, Jacques Garçon, a man I didn’t know, surprised me with a painting, in October 2004, after he heard one on my CDs on the radio in 2004.
He searched the Internet for pictures, made his painting, verified resemblance with Carl Fombrun and others, somehow found my address in Boston and shipped (for $45.91) the magnificent, hair-rich 24x30" oil painting to me. The gentleman’s gesture remains a testimony to his philosophy of life (I was no celebrity), and is evidence of Sixto’s impact on Jacques and countless who grew up listening to his stories, years after his death.
Happy centenary to my friend Maurice Sixto. And thank you again, Brother Jacques.

Trajectoire d’un portrait
Ayant planté ses propres histoires, non seulement il allait ouvrir la porte d’un jardin en jachère aux autres et à moi-même, mais il allait aussi me faire parvenir le cadeau le plus étrange et le plus inattendu de ma vie, et ceci 20 ans après sa mort. L’ancien ami de Sixto, Jacques Garçon, un homme que je ne connaissais pas, m’a surpris avec une peinture, en octobre 2004, après avoir entendu un de mes CD à la radio à Miami.
Ayant trouvé une image sur le net, il en fit un portrait, vérifia la ressemblance avec Carl Fombrun et d’autres, trouva mon adresse à Boston et m’expédia (à $45,91 de frais postaux) le magnifique portait à l’huile (24x30"). Le geste de ce monsieur demeure un témoignage de sa philosophie de la vie (je n’étais pas une célébrité) et témoigne de l’impact de Sixto sur Jacques et sur d’innombrables auditeurs qui ont grandi en écoutant ses récits.
Joyeux Centenaire à mon ami Maurice Sixto. Et merci encore mon frère Jacques.
